Prototype Self-Cleaning, Cylindrical Fish Dewatering ScreenThis facility is located at the McNary Dam on the Columbia River. Its purpose is to dewater Juvenile fish and facilitate their transport by tank cars to the mouth of the river. Existing horizontal dewatering screens at the dam currently dewater the fish, however they frequently plug up with debris and are hard to clean. The Prototype rotating Cylindrical Screen has a built in high-pressure water jet cleaning and debris collection system. It started test operations in the summer of 2001 and results have been very promising. LEI, subcontracting to Jacobs-Sverdrup Civil was responsible for the mechanical and electrical systems rotating the screen as well as the high pressure water jet cleaning and debris removal.
